Youth Leader

The Youth Leader course prepares participants to teach Babysitting and Stay Safe! courses with a focus on safety and emergency preparedness. The course involves an online component focused on the “Fundamentals of Instruction for Youth Leaders” followed by an in-class teaching experience.

To become a Youth Leader, participants need to be at least 18 years old or (16-17 with adult support) and certified in Standard First Aid/CPR Level C.

Course Structure

Online Fundamentals of Instruction: A self-pace online module covering teaching fundamentals. Typically, 5-7 hours to complete.
Teaching Experience: Participants will gain practical experience by assisting with or teaching a Babysitting or Stay Safe! Course.

Our instructor’s use a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning, promote participation and cater to the various learner needs. We use a learner-centered approach and incorporate a lot of hands-on teaching to review, demonstrate and practice skills.

Course Delivery Options

  • Blended Learning is a combination of independent learning and in-class practical skills. Once registered you will receive an email from the Canadian Red Cross with your online course invite. You are required to login and complete the online portion of the course at your own pace prior to attending the in-class session.
